Game Night at PJATK Gdańsk! May 27, 2026
On May 16, 2026, PJATK Gdańsk once again opened its doors to participants of Museum Night. The event took place simultaneously at two departments—the Department of Computer Science at 9/11 Targ Drzewny Street and the Department of New Media Arts at 55 Brzegi Street—attracting enthusiasts of new technologies, art, games, and Japanese culture.
The evening, packed with attractions, gave visitors a chance to see how the world of creativity and modern technology come together at PJATK. The Japanese Zone was a big hit, where participants could learn more about the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun, as well as take part in Yōkai drawing workshops inspired by Japanese folklore. Dozens of original interpretations of legendary creatures known from manga, anime, and games were created.
VR and 3D printing zones were also open all evening at both locations. Participants had the opportunity to try out virtual reality technologies and see the capabilities of modern 3D printing. Presentations of game projects created by GameDev students also drew huge interest. Visitors could not only talk to the developers but also play the prepared prototypes themselves.
One of the highlights of the program was a lecture by Dr. Leszek Żurek titled “Truth and Falsehood in Photography.” The event focused on the history of image manipulation—from the first photomontages to modern digital tools and artificial intelligence. The lecture concluded with a lively discussion with participants on the limits of image authenticity in the modern world.
At the Department of New Media Art, visitors were able to tour the studios and view students’ work during special guided tours of the building. The fabric printing studio was also a popular attraction, where participants created their own bags and T-shirts featuring original designs.
The linocut seal-making workshops were also very popular. Participants learned the basics of traditional art printing and created their own designs to print on paper and fabric. They were able to take their finished seals home as a souvenir of the event.
The evening concluded with a workshop on creating a visual novel, during which participants learned the basics of working with the Ren’Py engine and using Adobe tools to create graphics for narrative games.
We would like to thank all participants for attending, for their energy, and for the evening we spent together. This year’s Night of Museums demonstrated just how many areas art, technology, and education can bring together—and how much interest there is in the creative initiatives organized by the PJATK Gdańsk community.
