Can technology make it easier to help others in everyday life and strengthen neighborly relationships?

“Local Hero” is an app developed at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJATK) that aims to connect people who need a little help with residents willing to assist their neighbors.

The app was developed with the participation of local residents, and workshops with seniors—who helped shape how it works—played a particularly important role in its development. The project is designed to help with everyday situations such as grocery shopping, walking the dog, or providing minor technical assistance.

On August 20, 2026, the pilot phase of the project began in Gdańsk. In the next phase, “Local Hero” is set to expand to the entire Tri-City area.
