Open House on June 24!
Torii magazine published an exclusive interview with Nadia Zarańska, a graphic design student at PJATK Gdańsk, who had the opportunity to complete a prestigious internship working at the Polish Pavilion during the Osaka Expo 2025 world’s fair. In the interview, Nadia shares her experiences working in an international environment, the behind-the-scenes details of the demanding recruitment process, and the challenges that Japanese culture poses for foreigners.
In the interview, the student emphasizes how crucial the academic and language training she received at PJATK Gdańsk was to her success. Regular Japanese language classes and an intensive course in keigo—honorific Japanese—organized just before her departure allowed her to navigate the rigorous standards of the local business culture with ease. The ability to use polite forms of address proved to be an indispensable tool in her daily work and in building relationships with guests, including during such exceptional events as the visit of Her Imperial Highness Princess Tsuguko.
Nadia, juggling her professional responsibilities on-site with remote university studies, had to demonstrate excellent time management skills. As she herself recalls, working at the Expo was, for her—as a graphic designer accustomed to working in the comfort of her office—a leap into the deep end that allowed her to develop her self-confidence and adaptability.
We encourage you to read the full interview on the Torii magazine website (link), where our student also talks about what impressed the Japanese visitors most at the Polish pavilion and why it’s worth overcoming your fears before traveling to the Land of the Rising Sun
