Students of the Faculty of New Media Art in Gdansk took part in a unique workshop They were introduced to the secrets of ink painting by Sensei Matsumura Ryuka, a Suibokuga Japanese painting artist who has been creating for 47 years. This style of ink painting is closely related to the Japanese art of calligraphy. Participation in the workshop is a unique opportunity to meet Sensei in Gdansk and delve into this important aspect of Japanese culture and art
Sensei Matsumura Ryuka has been creating for 47 years and is a Japanese Suibokuga (ink painting art) artist.
Born in 1958 in Kyushu, Kumamoto Prefecture, she graduated from Kyushu Zokei Tanki Daigaku University and opened her studio in 1982, where she creates illustrations and various designs in addition to suibokuga. She has won many awards and participated in dozens of exhibitions.
"Oriental view of nature" and "beauty of asymmetry" are elements expressed in traditional Japanese painting, particularly in the Suibokuga technique. In addition, ink painting takes full advantage of the "beauty of empty space." Unlike Western paintings, traditional Japanese paintings do not cover the entire area.
The organizers of the event and long-time friends of Sensei Ryuka are Soke Masanori Ogawa and Anna Ogawa, whom we thank for allowing our students to participate in this unique event. We would also like to thank Ms. Pro-Dean of SNM in Gdansk, Dr. Joanna Zakrzewska, who for years has been bringing the beauty of Japanese culture and art closer to our students.
