The Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology was founded in 1994 (then still called the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology) by the Foundation for the Development of Computer Technology, implementing an agreement between the governments of Poland and Japan. By a decision of the Minister of National Education, it was entered in the register of higher education institutions and was granted the right to confer the title of computer science engineer. In 2007, a Foreign Didactic Center was established in Gdansk, educating students in the field of Computer Science. In 2010, it was transformed into an independent Faculty of Computer Science, whose Dean to this day is Dr. Marek A. Bednarczyk, Professor of PJATK. In the same year, the Faculty of New Media Arts was established, where the Dean is Dr. Mariusz Sladczyk.
